Ni-zem Al-khem was born from a infernal pact made generations ago, but if you ask his mother, she was cursed from her years spent in a unwanted union with a slaver in Calimshan. When Ni-zem was born, his mother wanted nothing of him, and she disappeared soon after never to be seen again.
To his father, Ni-zen was a distraction and soon grew disinterested with him, but his uncle, who also lived in Calimshan and wanted nothing to do with his brother’s slavery empire took interest in young Ni-zen especially when he started to show an applitude in the arcane arts. Through his uncle, he gained the attention of the Zhentarim of which his uncle was a member.
When he was in his teenage years, he started to be groomed as an asset for the network, primarily to inflitrate his father’s slave ring of which the Zhentarim had an interest in taking over. With no love towards his father he helped the network take over the operation. There were a few deaths, and his father “disappeared” much like his mother, but the takeover went off without much excitement.
Not soon after, Ni-zen because a full member of the Zhentarim and acted as an agent soon leaving the city to head north along the Sword Coast all the while doing jobs working towards the interests of the network.
A few years later, Ni-zem’s magic started to show some unwanted side effects, an occassional spell being cast around him and other odd effects would overcome him and people around him. Not to long after, he started to get these unusual dreams or visions that pointed him towards Greenrest. Perhaps, the answer to his unwieldy magics lies in that direction as well.
